...More About Nia, The Joy of Movement!

Nia was developed 26 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas.  There are currently more than 2,600 licensed Nia Teachers in over 40 countries around the world. Nia is different from any exercise program you've ever experienced. Rich in diversity and textured with Eastern and Western movement forms, Nia addresses the whole person, placing special attention on pleasure and sensory awareness. It will turn your workout into play, making comfort and joy a priority. Cardiovascular conditioning, muscle definition, increased balance and strength will follow as you become more accustomed to the Nia Technique.

With Nia you will discover ways of moving that are both safe and holistic, moving organically into a state of well-being that will use every single part of your body, without pain.  In a typical class, you will work all of your muscles and joints, adjusting the movements to fit your own comfort level. As you progress, your range of motion and strength will continue to increase. Nia is done barefoot, and to keep you safe there is no hard impact involved. Flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and stability are the sensations we explore and the areas where you will see dramatic changes in your body, while having more fun than you ever thought possible in a workout!

Nia is easy to learn. There are 52 basic moves, in varied patterns that are repeated in all the routines - you will quickly become familiar with them. A typical class is about an hour long, with warm-up, active movement phase and a meditative cooldown that will take you out the door with a smile on your face and lightness in your spirit.

We say that Nia is like chocolate - you cannot explain it, you simply must
try it for yourself!
